All about the perils of running in the countryside. How many of these hazards have you come across? I can often be found running around the country lanes near my home but that can sometimes prove difficult. I live and work in rural Essex. That means spending lots of time barefoot running on roads where there are no pavements. However it seems no amount of reflective or fluorescent apparel is enough to alert some oncoming motorists to my presence.
I could be 8 feet tall, 4 feet wide, covered in fairy lights and still not get noticed!. Taking out a few runners seems to be a competitive sport for some motorists! While I appreciate that barefoot runners can be stealthily quiet on our feet even a polite 'excuse me' or subtle cough often appears insufficient.
When I owned a dog I used to take a small bag out with me. Then, whenever he had a call of nature I could clean it up rather than leaving it on the ground for others to enjoy.
Please have a thought for the weary runner who is struggling to make it through his 18th mile. I also recently completed a 25K road race where I got my PR by 15 minutes. My interest is definitely piqued by the barefoot movement, and the chia and pinole!
I am obviously behind on posts, but these look awesome. At all. I love my sprint VFF shoes. I too am also working my way up in mileage slowly. I a may also rotate the three, we will see. I was running in Yosemite this week and found the Injinji toe socks worn with the VFF help if the ground is cold.

Love the shoes. I am starting to use my Nike Frees again for my running. When I spoke to him he loved the Vibram Five Fingers shoes too. Though, I had no real idea what they really looked like till now. You should check Tim out… he is truly inspiring. I hope you like it. I am so eager to know what you think of the whole barefoot running deal.
I ran a mile my first day and my calves were full of rock hard knots for the next week. I am very curious about the Five Fingers but am currently alternating between a pair of Diesels kind of like the Pumas rec by Pose ppl and old, split-toe Nike Air Rifts.
